There is no doubt a rich history of faith in Ireland, but right now is a pivotal time in the spiritual history of this country. A rapid shift in the last 20 years has occurred where, for the first time, there is a separation of church and state. Scandals and secularism have weakened the national influence of the Catholic Church resulting in a generation who are non-religious. In this time of what appears to be liberating freedom, many students are turning to empty philosophies but at the same time, are still very open to talking about Jesus. This as a very ripe time to engage with this generation of Irish students.
