Are you living the life God intended for you?

Or does it feel like something’s not working the way you hoped it would?

Do you have apps that didn't live up to your expectations?

Has your initial enthusiasm become frustration?

Sometimes we treat Jesus like an app. When we're not getting what we think we need from Him we close Him down. We swipe up.

But treating Jesus like an app doesn't work. He's the operating system.

Jesus needs to be at the center of your life, directing everything.

That's how your focus shifts from you and what you want, to God and His incredible plan for your life.

SO HOW DO YOU LIVE THE LIFE GOD MADE YOU FOR?

For your life to function properly, you need to put God in charge.

Have you ever prayed something like this?

“Lord Jesus, I will go where You want me to go, do what You want me to do, say what You want me to say, and give what You want me to give.”

Could you say those words now and mean them?

Maybe you need to think about this more deeply. Maybe you need to know more about how a life of following Jesus is meant to work.

Once you place your life in His hands, you’re going to ask God to help you find five things:

1. MY KINGDOM VISION

A vision is a picture of the future that produces passion in you. You function best as part of something bigger than yourself.

2. MY TEAM

Your team is a small group of people committed to helping you go after your kingdom vision — trustworthy friends you can connect with locally or virtually.

3. MY PLAN

Your plan doesn’t need to be complicated or foolproof, but you've got to know what you're doing and how you think you will do it.

4. MY TRAINING & TOOLS

Finding training related to your kingdom vision gives you a sense that “I can actually get better at this.”

5. MY COACH

A coach is someone you consider a little bit farther down the line in their journey with God than you.

1. MY KINGDOM VISION

Kingdom vision is seeing how you best fit into God’s big plan. This influences your choices now and in the years to come.

Many times this vision involves a specific place, context or group of people.

So if you’re a student on a university campus, is your vision to reach your dorm, department, campus? Is it to reach students in another part of the world?

If you’re in the workplace, is your vision to influence your team, or to see your workplace reflect Jesus to the business world?

If you’re a stay-at-home parent, does that picture of the future look like raising your children as followers of Christ or reaching your neighbors?

YOU DON’T HAVE TO CREATE THIS VISION ON YOUR OWN.

Seek Others

Being around people with a vision and passion will help you understand and cultivate your own.

So now you have a kingdom vision. What do you need to bring it to life?

YOU NEED A TEAM

2. MY TEAM

Your team is a small group of people committed to helping you go after your kingdom vision — trustworthy friends you can connect with locally or virtually.

If you don’t know who they are, pray and ask God how you will find your team.

Who are the people in your life who understand your Kingdom vision?

Who can help you pursue it by challenging you and asking you the right questions?

Who will commit to praying for you?

Followers of Jesus find ways to connect with people who share their kingdom vision and encourage them to take steps of faith. They do life together and learn from each other over time. They don't just attend events or programs.

But how is your team going to move forward to see your kingdom vision fulfilled?

YOU NEED A PLAN

3. MY PLAN

Your plan doesn’t need to be complicated or foolproof, but you've got to know what you're doing and how you think you will do it.

Without a plan, you’ll drift away from the vision you believe God gave you.

What are you asking God for specifically?

What are you going to do now, next and after that?

What support do you and your team need to stay on track with your kingdom vision?

When you have answered these 3 questions, you’ve begun your plan.

But planning may also include your schedule, personal finances and determining how you will pay off debt.

Now you’ve started sketching out your plan, what will help you execute it?

YOU’LL NEED TRAINING & TOOLS

4. MY TRAINING & TOOLS

Finding training related to your Kingdom vision gives you a sense that “I can actually get better at this.”

You need to ask yourself, “How will I gain more skills in the areas where I want to serve God?”

It may mean attending a conference, reading a book, taking a class or working through some online content.

Everything important that you will do in life — whether it’s being a spouse, a parent, a teacher or a vocational missionary — requires ongoing equipping.

If the central call of your life is to glorify Jesus, then you need resources, training and encouragement in things like how to share your faith, how to study and teach God’s word, how to help someone grow in their faith.

Training helps you in your journey of walking with God and serving Him for a lifetime.

How do you know what development you need most?

YOU NEED A COACH

5. MY COACH

A coach is someone you consider a little bit farther down the line in their journey with God than you.

God wants you to have someone you can learn from.

This person supports you individually and might help your team.

Who in your life has a walk with Christ that you want to model your life after?

Who has developed a personal ministry in the same context you are in?

3 things a coach does for you:

  1. Meets you regularly, either in person or via an online platform like Skype or Facetime.

  2. Challenges and trains you to walk with Christ as you pursue your Kingdom vision.

  3. Prays for you regularly.

Maybe you’ll find this person in your local church, or through a ministry like Cru.

Either way, they probably won’t find you.

SO WHAT’S YOUR NEXT STEP?

First things first, you pray. Remember the words we suggested praying to give God control of your life.

“Lord Jesus, I will go where You want me to go, do what You want me to do, say what You want me to say, and give what You want me to give.”

Have you given control of your life to God? Have you talked to Him about your future?

Are you willing to follow His plan, even if it means changing?

If you’re ready to experience life as God intended, you don’t have to use the prayer; it’s just there as a suggestion.

Jesus is waiting to provide you with the things we’ve talked about, and so much more.

Remember, God designed you with a purpose in mind. He wants you to grow by helping others grow closer to Him.

He wants your life to be incredible so that it shows the world how incredible He really is.
