Prayer is simply talking with God. It is the way you share your heart with Him, and also how you prepare your heart to listen to Him. Like with any other relationship, when you begin a relationship with God, you spend time with Him to get to know Him more. Prayer is simply a way for you to build into that relationship with Him.The more frequently you talk with God, the more you’ll get to know Him. Incorporating prayer into your life every day will have profound effects on your walk with God.

Bill Bright, the co-founder of Cru, said this about prayer: “I want, before God, that everything, every thought, attitude, action, motive, desire in my heart be pleasing to Him. I ask Him, ‘Keep the spotlight of your Spirit on me so there would be nothing impure or unholy in my life.’ That’s been my prayer for 50 years.’”

Imagine if this became your daily prayer. Imagine how God could use a heart surrendered to Him in this way. Daily prayer creates pathways for God to intercede in your life and use you to minister to others[link: https://www.cru.org/us/en/train-and-grow/spiritual-growth/prayer/life-of-prayer.html].

It may seem that having a simple conversation with God is a small thing, especially when you don’t get the results you expect. But the effects of your prayers are extraordinary.

We want to give you all the tools you need to experience the Lord this way. This is where the daily prayer matrix comes in.

The daily prayer matrix is a unique, strategic tool that teaches you how to incorporate prayer into everyday life. The prayer matrix is organized by monthly themes that you create yourself and daily themes that are taken from the Lord’s Prayer, which is the prayer that Jesus modeled for His followers in Matthew 6:9-13.

Daily Themes

First, let’s take a look at the daily prayer themes. Jesus prayed all the time and is a great model for learning how to pray effectively. His model prayer is an example of prayer that you can use in your own life:

“Pray like this:

‘Our Father in heaven,

may Your name be kept holy.

May Your Kingdom come soon.

May Your will be done on earth,

as it is in heaven.

Give us today the food we need,

and forgive us our sins,

as we have forgiven those who sin against us.

And don’t let us yield to temptation,

but rescue us from the evil one.’” (Matthew 6:9-13, New Living Translation)

This prayer is the model for the daily prayer matrix’s days of the week. Each day of the week corresponds to a different line in the Lord’s Prayer.

  • Monday’s: God’s Character (v. 9)

  • Tuesday’s: God’s Glory (v. 9)

  • Wednesday’s: God’s Kingdom (v. 10)

  • Thursday’s: God’s Plan (v. 10)

  • Friday’s: God’s Provision (v. 11)

  • Saturday’s: God’s Grace (v. 12)

  • Sunday’s: God’s Protection (v. 13)

The daily prayer matrix is designed so that daily prayer does not feel daunting, but doable. Here is a detailed explanation of the themes for each day of the week.
